The Opportunity
This is a co-op student position for the spring 2026 term.


We are seeking a Semiconductor Lab Research Scientist (Co-Op) to join our team. In this role, you will operate semiconductor processing and analytical equipment, develop advanced analysis processes, and contribute to solving complex technical challenges through experimental design and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do
  • Operate semiconductor processing and analytical equipment
  • Develop and refine processes for advanced semiconductor analysis
  • Design, execute, and document experiments
  • Build proof-of-concept prototypes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address technical challenges
  • Leverage scientific literature, industry knowledge, and adjacent technologies to generate and test solution hypotheses
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled as a post-secondary student in: Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor and/or cleanroom processes, and/or operation of vacuum systems (etching, deposition)
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Conduct independent research for targeted problem solving
    • Organize and present technical information
    • Learn and master diverse technical concepts and tools
Assets (Experience with one or more of the following):
  • Ion beam systems (ion beam etching, focused ion beam (FIB), ion milling)
  • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Dry (plasma, ion) or wet chemical etching of semiconductor materials
  • Thin film deposition and coatings (PVD, CVD, ALD, sputtering, spin coating)
  • Materials characterization (AFM, profilometry, optical microscopy)
  • Prototyping, CAD and fabrication of mechanical fixtures or jigs
  • Simulation of ion-solid interactions

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

This role is on-site at our Ottawa office and involves a mix of office work and lab work handling equipment, semiconductor samples, and occasional chemicals.
