THE OPPORTUNITY
As the Lab IT Support professional, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive computer support services to our Ottawa-based laboratories. This includes the maintenance and installation of hardware and software, as well as managing the service desk to ensure prompt resolution of user issues. Working closely with various teams within the IT department, you will collaborate on resolving complex technical issues, evaluating requirements, and recommending hardware and software solutions to enhance lab efficiency.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lab IT Management
  • Triage, route, and redirect problems to correct resources.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and find solutions to staff software and hardware issues.
  • Review and prioritize staff issues.
  • Investigates staff issues and needs to determine workable solutions.
User Support & Training
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on supported systems and software.
  • Set up, maintain, and repair Windows/Linux systems.
  • Troubleshoot desktop computers and attached peripherals, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions.
Maintain Operational Environment
  • Software license and asset management.
  • Track and maintain the assortment of lab computers making sure that backups and spare parts are readily available.
  • Coordinate with corporate IT and Security teams to ensure compliance with policies.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Degree or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with legacy as well as modern computers and operating systems (Windows XP, 7, 10, 11, Linux).
  • 3+ years of experience providing Level 2 and/or Level 3 IT Support.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, advanced interfaces and systems including PLCs, interfacing with custom hardware, standard and non-standard communication (WiFi, LoRa), microcontrollers (Arduino) and cloud computing infrastructure (AWS) are assets.
  • Experience with cloning/imaging software and different operating systems
  • Knowledge of Mobile Device Management tools
  • Experience with Active Directory or Entra AD
