THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Director, China Product provides strategic direction and operational leadership for TechInsights' China product portfolio, with responsibility for ensuring alignment between product strategy, execution, and delivery excellence. This individual will oversee China product coverage and lead the roadmap for the company's multi-year China intelligence initiatives.
Working closely with cross-functional leaders across Product, Data, Engineering, Architecture, Reverse Engineering, and Marketing, the Director will direct and leverage the company's core technical capabilities — reverse engineering, process verification, and supply chain intelligence — against the U.S.-China technology competition and its cascading regulatory, strategic, and commercial implications. This is an opportunity to shape enterprise-level outcomes while collaborating across a broad range of functions.
This role is accountable for program schedules, budgets, deliverables, and business alignment, and ensures that the Compliance Monitor and other China ecosystem intelligence products advance corporate strategy, drive customer satisfaction, and establish TechInsights as the premier provider of China semiconductor intelligence. Success in this role is measured against defined revenue targets and user base expansion.
This position is well suited to a candidate who brings a distinctive combination of product management expertise, deep China domain knowledge, executive leadership capability, and strategic business acumen.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Provide Strategic Leadership and Governance for China Products:
  • Define and drive the strategy and governance framework for all initiatives for TechInsights China products.
  • Build and manage the team - China semiconductor, regulatory/policy, and supply chain analysts, plus technical product managers - promoting accountability, collaboration, and execution discipline.
  • Lead quarterly and annual planning sessions, aligning multi-year goals, KPIs, and investment priorities with corporate objectives.
  • Set editorial direction and analytical standards, ensuring every deliverable pairs regulatory and geopolitical framing with TechInsights technical evidence.
  • Represent TechInsighs in executive forums, providing clear performance insights, pipeline, risk assessments, and recommendations for resource allocation.
Drive Product Strategy, Roadmap Development, and Market Positioning:
  • Own the end-to-end China product roadmap
  • Direct market analysis, competitive assessments, and customer research across fabless, capital equipment, IDM, foundry, hyperscaler, product manufacturer, and government segments to inform roadmap decisions.
  • Define product vision, value propositions, and differentiation grounded in TechInsights reverse engineering, teardown, and process analysis.
  • Collaborate with Reverse Engineering, Process Analysis, HPC, Market Analysis, Engineering, and Data teams to translate customer requirements into product specifications.
  • Ensure products are AI-native from inception, including integration with Insightful Chat, MCP connectors, and a dedicated agent for China intelligence use cases.
Build and Maintain Strategic Customer and Partner Relationships:
  • Serve as senior subject-matter expert and executive sponsor for key accounts across the semiconductor value chain.
  • Coordinate government business development (BIS, Treasury/OFAC, DoD, ODNI, allied governments) with the existing government relations function, subject to budget availability.
  • Represent TechInsights at industry conferences, briefings, and thought leadership forums.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend acquisition targets that accelerate the company’s coverage on China - coordinating with corporate development and executive leadership.
Ensure Operational Excellence and Team Development:
  • Establish and monitor China product KPIs covering revenue/ARR, content velocity, sales velocity, customer renewal rates, and bundle attach rate.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing analytical and product management team; manage the hiring plan and scaling model in step with revenue.
  • Foster deep integration with core TechInsights teams
  • Implement best practices in product development, content operations, agile methodologies, and stakeholder communication.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and third-party contractor and vendor relationships.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

Education

  • Advanced degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Economics, Engineering, Law, or a related field; MBA, PhD, Master's, or JD strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 10-12 years of progressive experience across the semiconductor industry, export control/national security policy, government, think tanks, or strategy consulting, including 5-7 years in leadership roles managing cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives.
  • Proven track record building or leading a product line, practice, or intelligence function, with experience managing program budgets and P&L/revenue responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with export control regimes (BIS, Entity List, EAR, ECCN classification) and U.S.-China technology policy.

Technical & Domain Expertise

  • Deep understanding of the U.S.-China technology competition and its regulatory, strategic, and commercial implications for the semiconductor value chain, including the Chinese semiconductor ecosystem (AI accelerators, foundries, memory, and domestic equipment/materials).
  • Ability to translate reverse engineering, teardown, and process analysis into defensible technical evidence and strategic intelligence.
  • Strong product management methodologies (Agile, roadmapping, stakeholder management); familiarity with AI-native product delivery (LLM-based assistants, MCP connectors) a plus.

Leadership & Communication

  • Visionary, results-oriented leader with high integrity, a collaborative mindset, and a customer-centric, external market orientation; adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence C-suite, government, and board stakeholders; strong strategic thinking, program management, and change management capabilities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and geopolitical concepts for diverse audiences and represent the organization in external and government forums.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established network across the Washington national security and semiconductor policy communities; prior government service (BIS, DoD, State, Treasury, or intelligence community) or allied-government engagement.
